Rahi’s refreshing take on Indian cuisine is reflected both on the plate and around it. Chef Chintan Pandya and owner Roni Muzumdar have turned to Mumbai and Calcutta for inspiration in a space that’s contemporary yet warm.
Roni Mazumdar has hired chef Chintan Pandya, formerly of Michelin-starred Junoon, to run a new restaurant in the space called Rahi. Mazumdar is a young restaurateur who also owns Unico Global Tacos in Long Island City and is from the family behind The Masalawala.
".. Those pressed for time can opt for Chilli Cheese Toast or Bhuna Bhutta, a grilled corn on the cob dish topped with turmeric, chaat masala and lime. Not-a-Saag-Roti—a cornbread finger sandwich stuffed with mustard greens—Chicken Kofta and Kasundi Cod are for those with a little bit more time."
In the West Village, this contemporary Indian eatery and bar (helmed by a Junoon alum) sources local ingredients for small plates and upscale mains that reflect different regions of the country. Stylishly patterned murals on white-washed brick walls add to the modern feel.
